Exhibition “Memorias de agua” (Water Memories), La Casa Amarilla
The exhibition “Memorias de agua” held in La Casa Amarilla focuses on memories of the first water treatment plant in Lanzarote, also a pioneer across the border. The exhibition contextualises a turning point in the history of Lanzarote, from the personal and professional perspective of its driving force, Manuel Díaz Rijo, as well as from the socio-economic framework of the 1960’s, which was when the introduction of the plant took place.
Around 1960, Manuel Diaz Rijo imagined a friendly sea. If up until then they had managed to get salt from the sea, why not get drinking water out of the sea too. And that’s what he devoted his life to. In Lanzarote, where it was much needed.
In addition, the water plant was the cause and reason behind the training of a wonderful team of collaborators to whom a well-deserved appreciation tribute is also being paid at the exhibition.
This exhibition will perhaps not only be used as an example, but also as a way to encourage young researchers and to promote the key role of wit and knowledge when it comes to collective creation.
